For my second practicum, I was given the amazing opportunity to teach in Dawson Creek Secondary School, along some really interesting and passionate teachers. I taught Social Studies 10 (Canadian history from the 60’s-90’s & Human Geography) and Art 10/12 (Charcoal and Watercolour). I had such a fun time emersing myself into this new community and school district, and connecting with so many new faces. If I had to describe this practicum in three words, they would be experimentation, challenge, and differentiation.
Some student examples of our Native Plants of BC watercolour study! Students did research in field books to learn more about the plant they chose, as well as traditonal names and uses, among other interesting plant facts. Bog Blueberry Lupin. Bunchberry. Labrador TeaPasque Flower, Wild Rose, Fairy Slipper, and Showy Aster. Dawson Creek is situated on Mile Zero of the Alaska highway, and is a popular spot for American tourists to visit! As a result, there were lots of neat tourist attractions and museums for me to explore. One of the best parts about this practicum was being reunited with my twin sis! We had lots of funny run-ins of my students confusing her with me outside of school, and vice versa with her co-workers! some infographics made by my students on Canva, showing their learning of 1960s-90s Canadian History! DCSS-SP had a lot of great tech at their school that I was able to play around with, including these awesome poster printers! me and my lovely CT, Dixie, on the last day of practicum! My other CT, Mark, was not the selfie type, but was another awesome mentor throughout my second practicum. These two, while good friends with each other, were polar opposites and it was really fun navigating their completely different teaching styles!A sweet little goodbye present from one of my social studies students! I was very sad to say goodbye to all of these great students!!
